Reginald Tucker

Featured Artist, June 27-July 10, 2022

“My move to Canada in the late 1990s signaled a change in how I approach photography. The transition to digital photography was the catalyst. In addition to exploring new possibilities that digital photography offered, I began drawing and painting again.

Today I no longer define myself as a painter or photographer, but simply as a maker of images.

Reginald Tucker

Reginald Tucker became a photojournalist after graduating with a degree in painting from Goldsmith’s School of Art, University of London (UK).  His photographs of people are marked by a concern for the individual, exemplified in his book on waiting:  Seeing the Hours, (Dewi Lewis Publishing, 1996).  He was the recipient of several national awards in the USA for his photographs and audiovisual presentations. In the UK he taught photography on the Photography In Art course at Swansea Metropolitan University.

Mr. Tucker has an exhibition at the Parrsboro Band Association coming up in 2 days! He will give an artist's talk on June 29, and his work will be on display at The Hall (44 King St., Parrsboro) until July 10.

I photograph as I would paint or draw. I want images to have a physical presence similar to that of a drawing or a painting. I want them to assert themselves, to draw a strong response from the viewer.

I am constantly experimenting so that I am always in a state of flux, always finding myself in unfamiliar territory. Through this process, I strive to deepen and extend my range of self expression. I want to explore hidden areas of memory and perception to express what I cannot express in words.
