Meet Chantal Julien, 2022 Judge

We are delighted and honoured to have Chantal Julien join us for our 6th Annual Parrsboro International Plein Air Festival as the Judge.

About the Judge / À propos du juge

Chantal Julien lives and works in Sherbrooke, province of Quebec, Canada. Her interest in the visual arts began early. Mainly self-taught, she participated in many advanced workshops. She also obtained a certificate in Visual Arts at the University of Sherbrooke. She received numerous awards, grants and recognition from her peers:

• 2nd place in the NOAPS Virtual Plein Air Competition, St-Augustine, Florida.
  

• The Shirl Smithson Memorial Scholarships (OPA),
  

• “Best in Show” in Parrsboro (NS) International Plein Air Festival,
  

• Twice the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant.
  

• Jury member for international painting exhibitions

Her works are part of many public and private collections. She is represented by several galleries in Canada. She is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA), the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA), the Coalition of Artists in Visual Arts of Quebec (RAAV), the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS), the Oil painters of America (OPA) and The Institut of Representational Art (IAF)

Chantal Julien vit et travaille à Sherbrooke, province de Québec, Canada. Son intérêt pour les arts visuels a commencé très tôt. Principalement autodidacte, elle a participé à de nombreux ateliers de perfectionnement. Elle a également obtenu un certificat en arts visuels à l'Université de Sherbrooke. Elle reçoit plusieurs prix et bourses ainsi que la reconnaissance de ses pairs

• 2e place concours Plein air en virtuel de la NOAPS, St-Augustine, Florida.
  

• Shirl Smithson Memorial Scholarships (OPA)
  

• 1er prix “Best in Show” au Festival International de Peinture Plein Air, Parrsboro, (N.E.)
  

• Bourse de la Fondation Elizabeth Greenshields à deux reprises.
  

• Membre de jury pour des concours internationaux de peinture

• Ses oeuvres font partie de nombreuses collections publiques et privées.

Elle est représentée par plusieurs galeries au Canada. Elle est membre de la Fédération des Artistes Canadiens (FCA), de la Société des Artistes Canadiens (SAC), du Regroupement des Artistes en Arts Visuels du Québec (R.A.A.V.), de la Oil Painters of America (OPA), la National Oil Painters and Acrylic Society (NOAPS) et de l’Institut des Arts Figuratifs (IAF).

Artist Statement / Démarche artistique

“When I look at a landscape, an emotion arises, just waiting to be immortalized. Light becomes the trigger for the composition. Above all, I seek to produce an atmosphere to create an intense emotional dialogue with the viewer. The atmospheres painted contribute to the feeling of attending a privileged, meditative moment, where the unsaid is an integral part of the painting.”

« Quand je regarde un paysage, une émotion surgit, qui ne demande qu'à être immortalisée. La lumière devient le déclencheur de la composition. Je cherche avant tout à produire une atmosphère pour créer un dialogue émotionnel intense avec le spectateur. Les ambiances créées contribuent au sentiment d’assister à un moment privilégié, méditatif, où le non-dit fait partie intégrante du tableau. »
